In the Area
The City of Montrose fee schedule approved July 1, 2026 sets the same flat $125 for a roofing permit, a siding permit, and a window permit. Montrose Charter Township, outside the city limits, uses its own schedule. Which side of the city limit your address is on decides which schedule prices your permit.

Questions
We offer roof repair, roof replacement, siding, window replacement, deck building, storm damage repair, and siding repair.
Other building work is priced from the cost of construction, which the city calculates from a national valuation table, and the city may ask for a signed contract to verify the cost. A deck would use this scale: $50 for work up to $500, $140 for work up to $2,000, and $15 more for each additional $1,000 up to $25,000.
A $150 fee applies to work started without a permit, and removing a stop-work order costs $105, according to the fee schedule the city approved on July 1, 2026.
For an address inside the city, start with Montrose City Hall, whose building page said on August 22, 2026 that the city has no building inspector and that permits are processed with the State of Michigan until further notice. An address in Montrose Charter Township goes to the township's building department, which keeps its own office hours.
Montrose Charter Township requires a building permit for new siding and a new roof, and for decks and sheds over 200 square feet. A deck or shed of 200 square feet or less needs only a zoning compliance permit, and when a larger project gets a building permit, the township waives the zoning fee. The fees themselves are set by township board resolution.
